steve gavazzi & the story behind land-grant universities

Steve Gavazzi is a professor of human development & family science at The Ohio State University. While Steve is a marriage and family research scientist by training, he’s also been interested in the mission of land-grant institutions. That interest led him to co-write the book Land-Grant Universities for the Future: Higher Education for the Public Good with E. Gordon Gee, president of West Virginia University. We chatted with Steve about the history of these institutions and their future. We also discuss college rankings and their historic impact on institutions of higher learning.

REBROADCAST: hope cooper buckner & the monograms

Jackie and Lougan will be back on March 21, but in the mean time enjoy this episode with Hope Cooper Buckner!

This week we talk to Hope Cooper Buckner, the assistant director of communications at Belmont University.  Aside from dealing with Lougan on a regular basis, Hope is an integral part of Belmont’s Office of Communications that produces content and works with internal and external stakeholders to help manage the institutional brand. In May, Hope graduated with an M.Ed. in  nonprofit leadership and as her thesis studied the value of collegiate level mentorship experiences for women. That research inspired her to launch a new nonprofit called MentorHER which will provide psychosocial mentoring opportunities for women on college campuses.
