Episode 51 is with Dr. Jordan Wagge, Associate Professor of Psychology at Avila University. To be clear, she’s not the kind of psychologist who helps people, even though she likes to help people. Jordan, along with her students, runs the Cognition Lab at Avila, studying food and eating behaviors. We discuss her method of research, relying mostly on the internet. We also talk about traveling through space, setting your GPS to a voice with an accent, and what happens when you’re a young professional.

We hit the big 5-0 with Lisa Catto, Director of Social Media and Media Relations at Western Oregon University. Because she’s in Oregon and Lougan loves it, we talk about Portland…a lot. That includes public transit, ramen noodles, and the fact that it really is awesome despite what Portlandians say about it. With the new year starting, all of us are thinking about upcoming conferences, and we discuss why they’re awesome, how to be a newbie, and other great benefits. We close the show talking about social media groups, from faculty to students!

Episode 49 is with Jim Sargent, Assistant Director of Admissions and Coordinator of Transfer Admissions at Trinity College. Although his role is fairly new, Jim is not new to Trinity, previously working in Communications. We chat about transfer students and their needs, as well as resources on urban and suburban campuses. We tangent about Pokemon, cats, Star Wars, and rom coms, but get back on track when Jim explains Trinity’s new announcement; becoming test-optional.

Episode 48 is the first of 2016 with Patrick Jervis-Stone, Social Media and Brand Manager at East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT). EVIT students are at their high school for half of the day, while spending the other half learning career and technical skills that they can take with them as they transition into college or the workforce and beyond. We chat about cats, how we got in our jobs (of course, not because we thought we would), and about the importance of teaching ourselves new skills using the internet. Jackie wraps the show with a crazy new idea for ESPNM, ESPN Mascot.

Episode 47 welcomes recent graduate Brady Griffith, Life Coach at Maryville University. Naturally, we talk about Star Wars because Lougan had seen the new release since our last episode…more than once. Don’t worry, listeners, we cut out the spoilers. We determine that Lougan is in fact not a Star Wars uberfan, but does own a $600 lightsaber. We finally get around to asking Brady what a Life Coach really is, and he explained the relatively new concept in Higher Education and at Maryville. As a Maryville alumnus, Brady describes his transition from student to Life Coach, and how it benefits his new position. We’re excited to bring Brady back on the show to hear how the program has evolved!
