ebru kardan & the great outdoors

Ebru KardanWe’ve made it to episode 70 with Ebru Kardan, Director of External Affairs and Communications at the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. We first address exactly what that means, as higher ed titles tend to include a lot of extra words in job titles. There’s some nerdiness in this podcast, in the form of Star Trek talk and Ebru’s famous beer can cat. We also talk about Untappd and call out many past guests for the beers they were drinking at the time, and Jackie explains a class she’ll be taking later this month.

It’s been a crazy week, so Jackie and Lougan decided to do a quick episode about what we’ve been up to. We’ve both received new job titles for the new academic year, and we’re both hard at work gearing up for the new semester. We also talk about our goals for the year, Jackie’s “reading” habits and Lougan’s favorite video game of all time Persona 4.

Unsurprisingly, we talk about cats (there’s 9 between everyone), but also chat with Melissa about the recent Sarpa fire that was very closeby. Now that it’s summer, life has slowed down a little, but Melissa is working on a website relaunch for the College of Engineering. We also geek out about Murder She Wrote and Star Trek for a while.

Episode 58 brings on the super hot Kerri Hicks, Library Web Manager at Brown University. Kerri tells us all about what it’s like to work in a library, especially on the web with huge databases and interesting social networks. Lougan finds some old research he did in college – all about sharks – and we search for random things on the Brown University Library site. Kerri talks about what she does outside of work, which includes chatting with her parrots, knitting (but no cats), and singing kerrioke.
