scott grant & letting students drive the bus

Scott Grant is an assistant professor in the College of Business at the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio. Scott, Jackie and Lougan discuss the value of general education courses and electives toward one’s future career path. Scott believes that teaching students starts with challenging them in ways that haven’t been before. One way he did this was by creating The Oiler 10, a student-run consulting agency. From this, he learned that teaching can go beyond the typical structure within higher education.

Can you believe it? It’s 2018 and our first episode of the year stars Andy Brown, the director of media relations and online content at Kalamazoo College. brock tibert & the data trough

We’re at episode 95 with Brock Tibert, Vice President of Audience Marketing and Analytics at CollegeWeekLive. We chat about data, data, and more data. Brock explains his history of enrollment data and analytics, and we discuss what the new age of technology means for marketing to prospective students. Is it creepy, or is it marketing. We don’t talk only numbers – Brock and Lougan make some Star Trek references and Lougan tries to make a joke.

We return from our break this week to welcome back Mark Anbinder, the web communications manager at Cornell University.  We saw Mark just last week at the HighEdWeb Conference in Hartford, CT.  We discuss the conference and talk about what experiences we enjoy at events like this.  As it turns out, Jackie and Mark both have new vehicles with Apple CarPlay. That new feature has allowed Mark to binge listen to the podcast, and he shares with us a list of his favorite episodes. We finally end the show talking about our experiences with our Apple Watches and Mark talks about his Swatch.

liz gross & no amazon, i’m not having a baby

Liz GrossThis week on the show, Lougan talks to Dr. Liz Gross, the marketing insights manager at Great Lakes Higher Education. Due to technical issues with the audio file of the original recording, Lougan had to re-record the episode and unfortunately Jackie wasn’t able to join us. We start the show discussing obscure card games, and later discuss Liz’s work doing marketing research and how the data she collects is used.  We also discuss Liz’s doctoral research about student engagement in the digital age.

gil rogers & trying on lougan’s clothes

We all pile into Lougan’s closet for episode 92 with Gil Rogers, Director of Marketing at NRCCUA – National Research Center for College and University Admissions. Gil had just transitioned from working at Chegg due to its partnership with NRCCUA. Fortunately for him, he didn’t have to pack up his desk or turn in his parking pass, because he worked – and will continue to work – from home in his basement office. We talk all about enrollment and recruitment marketing, how we should adapt to a changing data- and social media-filled world, and consider how prospective students view the admissions process.
