#heweb19 & the return of the golden nuggets

What’s better than actually going to the HighEdWeb Conference? Recording an episode with your friends that actually went! At least that’s what Lougan is telling himself this week as he welcomes Jackie and Jon-Stephen back to the show along with new guest Alaina Wiens. We chat about what it’s like running social media for the conference, and the various presentations they gave. We also talk about the “golden nuggets” they are taking back home this year.

This week on the show, Lougan and Jackie are joined by Higher Ed Social alums Liz Gross from Campus Sonar, Jon-Stephen Stansel from University of Central Arkansas and Jeff Stevens from University of Florida Health. We also welcomed Andrew Cassel from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. We sat down at Sacrament Brewing in Sacramento, California to have a great discussion about the 2018 Higher Education Web Professionals Conference. There were a lot of great takeaways, so take a listen!

We return from our break this week to welcome back Mark Anbinder, the web communications manager at Cornell University.  We saw Mark just last week at the HighEdWeb Conference in Hartford, CT.  We discuss the conference and talk about what experiences we enjoy at events like this.  As it turns out, Jackie and Mark both have new vehicles with Apple CarPlay. That new feature has allowed Mark to binge listen to the podcast, and he shares with us a list of his favorite episodes. We finally end the show talking about our experiences with our Apple Watches and Mark talks about his Swatch.

Paul Gilzow in a carEpisode 74 welcomes Paul Gilzow, Apps Developer from the University of Missouri, who Jackie and Lougan recently spent some in-person time with at the recent Higher Ed Web conference in Memphis, TN. Paul’s presentation, “Access Denied: Keeping Yourself off an Attacker’s Radar,” was named best in track and best in conference. We chat about our conference takeaways, how physical distance can effect working teams, and the best places to get BBQ in Tennessee.
