nicole lentine & the vhs tape

1115973_740109098960_697067394744921213_oEpisode ten brings some more severe wind chill with Nicole Lentine, Senior Assistant Director of Admissions at Champlain College. Nicole has been at Champlain for a long time, and it all started with a VHS tape; the one she received as marketing material from the college. She applied there, and only there, and has worked there ever since! We chat about the changing landscape of admissions and student applications, breaking down silos, and the shackles we wear each day; our Fitbits.

matt herzberger & the pineapple express

1795717_10104508883977244_59625564_nEpisode eight is in NO way sponsored by anything in, around, or related to Portland, Oregon. We promise. Lougan loves it, and Matt is visiting, so we talk about it. Matt Herzberger is heading to Portland for some fun, but will also be going on a campus visit as the founder of Aligned Path, a digital marketing consulting organization. Aside from food in Portland, we chat about Matt’s decision to start his own business, what it’s like to be a vendor who does no evil, and of course…snow. We also left you a special gift in this episode. See if you can find it.

chris d’orso & the unexpected google search

hqdefaultEpisode seven features the closest thing we could get to a celebrity, Chris D’Orso, Assistant Director of Enrollment Communications at Stony Brook University. Aside from being “the Twitter guy” on campus, Chris co-hosts Admissions Live, part of the newly rebranded Higher Ed Live Network. We chat with Chris about breakfast foods, but more interestingly about social media on campus and how to balance the love for the place you work with the love you have for your alma mater. We also do a little digging and find something out about Chris that may be a little less known.

kristin burns & admissions forever

10961777_10103343578009693_360882522_nEpisode five welcomes Kristin Burns, Marketing Writer at University of California Davis. Even though none of us work in Admissions, we spend a lot of time chatting about the department, thanks to Lougan and Kristin walking down memory lane. We highlight the pros and cons of “class of” groups, while realizing that the incoming class was born right around the same time Happy Gilmore was released. We also talk about the value of the fresh-outta-college opinion Jackie and other current students offer to the workplace, the power of hashtags for incoming students, and studying abroad.

10983064_10153667212679068_937848143_oEpisode two marks the last podcast of 2014, and we’re saying hello to the new year with Dave Tyler, Digital and Social Specialist at the College at Brockport State University of New York.  ‘Tis the season to talk about holiday cards, as well as the fine line non-religious institutions walk this time of the year.  All of us take a moment to make some resolutions for 2015, too, both personally and professionally. We also talk about the SUNY Mascot Madness campaign and the SUNY (State University of New York) system.

Aside from Todd nearly spoiling the end of Jackie’s favorite reality shows, we talk about what it’s like to work on a decentralized campus, and Todd’s transition to a new role at a new institution. jackie & lougan

10615420_10203502539709009_8994708048438277181_nEpisode zero is the one that’s generally passed over, but if you want a witty introduction to the intention of higher ed social, take a listen. We talk about what will be featured on the podcast down the road (hint: higher education, and other fun stuff), but also chat about what new things are happening on social media in higher ed, including student workers and fun ways to support students during finals week.
