brady griffith & don’t worry, lougan cut out the spoiler

Portable Network Graphics image-5DF2B92E1A50-1Episode 47 welcomes recent graduate Brady Griffith, Life Coach at Maryville University. Naturally, we talk about Star Wars because Lougan had seen the new release since our last episode…more than once. Don’t worry, listeners, we cut out the spoilers. We determine that Lougan is in fact not a Star Wars uberfan, but does own a $600 lightsaber. We finally get around to asking Brady what a Life Coach really is, and he explained the relatively new concept in Higher Education and at Maryville. As a Maryville alumnus, Brady describes his transition from student to Life Coach, and how it benefits his new position. We’re excited to bring Brady back on the show to hear how the program has evolved!

10996000_731359353656880_5555353777226381225_nEpisode 46 is the first episode of season 2! We celebrate with Wimer Alberto, currently serving as the Senior Coordinator of Occupancy Management and Housing Operations at Arizona State University, but will soon be transitioning to Assistant Director for Guest and Conference Services. Because of his new role, we talk about the impact of conferences and other resources on campus, which universities are now beginning to take advantage of. With the recent Star Wars movie release, Lougan nerds out (a lot) especially because Jackie has finally seen a Star Wars movie! We close the show by talking about how our own studies shaped the way we view ourselves on our campuses, as well as Wimer’s post-graduate dreams.

In this mini episode, we relive some of our favorite moments of 2015. There’s even a discussion of where we want to go with year two of the show. Thanks so much to all of our guests this year, and most of all, thanks to all our listeners for sticking around each week!

brian proffer & the commercial break

12358136_10105954398594303_179749701_nEpisode 45  is with Brian Proffer, Assistant Manager for University Activities Board at Michigan State University. We start by chatting about the thing that’s most important in life – binge-watching television shows on Netflix. Brian is watching, and tweeting about his journey through the Friends series. At MSU, Brian works with students to fundraise for a programming budget; a unique challenge considering no student fees are allocated to campus programming. Brian shares the successful events on campus that act as fundraisers, and some just for fun! We give a shoutout (a few of them) to Alaina Wiens, reminding us how small the field of higher education really is. We wrap the show with a discussion about something else that’s really important to life: bacon, breakfast and…Amazon Prime Now.

Jake DolanEpisode 44 welcomes Jake Dolan, Director of Web and Digital Communications at Montana State University. We chat about different conferences we’ve attended and plan to attend, even if some of them are outside the scope of higher education, inspiring a discussion on the importance of understanding our jobs without necessarily looking at them through the lens of a college or university. We talk about the evolution of the web, and how each of us experienced its growth in our own way, plus some juicy gossip about Lougan’s first ever website. Jake closes the show by explaining how the web is maintained at Montana State; and it’s not only one person’s responsibility.
